Rafting on the Umba River

The Umba is a beautiful northern river that flows from the mountain lake of the same name - the Umbozer, sandwiched between mountain massifs. The water in it is the purest, bluish-green in color.

The group size is from 6 to 20 people. The conditions are hiking. Meals are 3 meals a day, we cook on a campfire, we live in tents (provided by the club, but you can take your own, who is comfortable). We get up in the most beautiful places on the river. We row for 3-5 hours a day, pass the rapids, in the middle of the route and at the end we make a day.

The weather on the Kola is quite severe: the Umba is located beyond the Arctic Circle and flows out of a mountain lake, the water does not warm up above 15 degrees in summer, sometimes it drops to 10-12 degrees, although in the shallow lakes through which our route passes, the water is warmer. It is necessary to take a responsible approach to the choice of personal equipment in order to feel comfortable.

Carefully study the list of recommended equipment for this hike. The warmest time is from mid-July to mid-August. During the day, the temperature can be from 10 to 20 degrees, at night from 5 to 12. Nature is northern. Coniferous forests cover most of the river coast, sometimes there are deciduous trees. On the route we will pass the rapids formed by rocky outcrops. On the horizon you can see the Khibiny Mountains, which are more than 350 million years old, as well as hills and hills. The river often floods, forming both small and quite large beautiful lakes. Sometimes there are sandy beaches along the shores. The forests of the Kola Peninsula are rich in mushrooms and berries.

Depending on the month, you can eat cloudberries, blueberries, blueberries, lingonberries, boneberries, porcini mushrooms, aspen, blackberries, mosses, chanterelles and cheesecakes. The water level is largely regulated by the Umbozer, and also depends on the weather. After heavy rains, the water may rise, and then its level gradually decreases. The higher the water level, the more powerful the rapids and the more interesting the route.

On average, the water during the summer is quite high, and the thresholds do not differ much in power. There are quite a lot of mosquitoes and midges on the river - more than in Karelia. It is advisable to have clothes that are not bitten by mosquitoes, and take repellents with you. There are almost none on the rocky, draughty parking lots. There are a lot of fish in the river, trout, grayling, salmon, pink salmon (it comes into the river to spawn every two years), pike, perch and other types of fish. Fishing in the river . Umbe is carried out under license. Cell phones are caught at the beginning and end of the route. The main part of the route passes through remote places. It is best to take a Megaphone.
