Introduction to the Murmansk Region for beginners. What to eat, where to live, what to watch

A great cheat sheet, if you know about the Murmansk region only that it is somewhere in the north.

Main cities and districts of the Murmansk region

Murmansk is the largest ice-free port of Russia beyond the Arctic circle, the center of the Murmansk region. Here you can see the world's first nuclear icebreaker "Lenin", monuments of the Great Patriotic War, visit museums and various events.

Kirovsk (Khibiny) - the magnificent Khibiny Mountains, many ski slopes, here you can go on a real hike, relax in nature and even go on a helicopter tour over the mountain range.

Teriberka is the location of the film "Leviathan" and the beach near the Arctic Ocean. People come here to see the real harsh northern nature, the graveyard of ships and the unusual beauty of the beach "dragon eggs".

Tersky coast - here are the petroglyphs of Kanozera, cultural monuments of the Pomors, Kuzomenskie sands, amethyst coast, the Pomor village of Varzuga.

Lovozersky district is the geographical center of the Kola Peninsula, one of the main places of residence of the indigenous people of the Kola Peninsula — the Sami. The area is notable not only for its ethnographic routes, but also for opportunities for various types of outdoor activities — hiking, river rafting, and tours to the Seidozero.

Sredny and Rybachy Peninsulas - once here, tourists will find themselves outside of civilization and go on exciting tours in off-road vehicles.

Kandalaksha district - here is the Kolvitsky Bay with a length of 7 kilometers, into which the stormy wide Kolvitsa River flows — an ideal place for rafting. In the village of Kolvitsa there is one of the most beautiful waterfalls-Black Padun, an ecotrope with a length of 600 meters leads to it.
