Murmansk is located on the shore of the ice-free Kola Bay, and is the largest city beyond the Arctic Circle.

Murmansk is the administrative center of the Murmansk region — a city of high quality of life, a comfortable urban living environment, a Russian center for the development of the Arctic with development priorities in the fields of fisheries and transport.


The Murmansk seaport is the only ice-free deep-water harbor in the European part of Russia that has direct and convenient access to ocean highways. Among the main attractions of Murmansk is the memorial "To the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War", towering 173 meters above the bay. The height of the monument, called "Alyosha" by Murmansk residents, is 35 meters (the second highest in Russia after the Volgograd statue "Motherland"). At one of the favorite places of recreation of citizens — Semenovsky Lake-a memorial dedicated to the steadfastness and courage of Murmansk residents during the Great Patriotic Warhas been opened . In its center is the "chimney" of a house that burned down due to the bombing.
