Apartment-museum of scientist Oleg Izmailovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky
Add to the journey
The museum apartment is located on the Chunozersk estate of the Lapland Reserve and is dedicated to O.I. Semenov-Chan-Shansky and his invaluable work in the reserve. He lived and worked in this house for many years.
Oleg Izmailovich Semenov-Tyan-Shansky (1906-1990) was an outstanding naturalist scientist who devoted more than 60 years of his life to studying the nature of the Lapland Nature Reserve.
The museum presents an exposition with archival materials, photographs, pages of the scientist's phenological diaries. The most valuable is the scientist's room itself, where his manuscripts and personal belongings are presented, as well as the corner exposition, where a special device is presented, an actograph for recording the process of hatching eggs by birds, which he designed himself. For the most complete picture of the life of O.I. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, it is recommended to visit the museum accompanied by a guide.
If you decide to visit the museum yourself, a booklet with a brief description of the scientist's life and individual exhibits will help to make the visit more intense — the booklets are available in the tourist information center (TIC) of the reserve.
