Mount Yelnyun 2
Add to the journey
The relief of the reserve is represented by mountain ranges stretching to the southeast from the border with Finland. The main ones are the greasy tundra in the northwest, Wolf tundra in the north, Monche— and Chunatundra in the east. In the center of the reserve there are lower massifs of the Nyavka tundra.
The main mountain range of the reserve, Chunatundra, stretches in the meridional direction for 40 km.
The mountains Yelnyun-1, Yelnyun-2 and Yelnyun-3 are the southeastern extremities of Chunatundra, their height is about 400-500 meters.
These are the habitats of the red book species — wild reindeer. With the onset of spring, the mountains are freed from snow before anyone else, so deer come here to feed, because various types of lichens grow here — a favorite food of deer. And in summer, moose graze in the mountains, whose whole life, it would seem, is connected with the forest.
From the tops of each of the mountains there are beautiful views of the Khibiny and the lake system of the reserve.
