The area of this fourth largest state nature reserve in the European part of Russia is approximately 3,000 square kilometers. And its peculiarity is that previously people have never lived on these lands and were not engaged in economic activities, so almost the entire territory is represented by wild untouched nature. The watershed of the Barents and White Seas passes through the territory of the reserve.
Here you can meet a real climatic miracle! This northern Lights is a stunning, fantastic, divinely beautiful phenomenon of the northern winter. It can be observed from the end of August, when the nights become quite dark, and until mid-April. The starting point of the excursions is the Chunozerskaya estate of the reserve.
There is an excursion and tourist complex located here. You can walk along the ecological trails of the reserve: climb Mount Yelnyun (3 km), make a trip around the world on the "Circumnavigation" trail (14 km), walk to the historical place — the Old Estate of the reserve (4 km) or walk along the educational trail "Lesnaya Pochemuchka".
In winter, the trails are accessible by snowshoe. All year round, the museum of the organizer and first director of the reserve, G. M. Kreps, the museum of the patriarch of the reserve, O. I. Semenov-Tyan-Shansky, and the Sami open-air exhibition "In the Land of the Flying Stone"are open to you.You can get to Chunozerskaya Usadba-the place of the tour, by private car (for individual tourists) or by pre-booked bus (for organized groups).
The entrance to the reserve is located (barrier at the bridge of the Chuna River):
- on 371 km of the Murmansk-Saint Petersburg highway;
- on 1221 km of the St. Petersburg-Murmansk highway.
