The Church of the Annunciation in the city of Kola — Orthodox Church, erected in 1807 on the orders of Catherine II, the only stake extant building (stone walls) of the nineteenth century.
The Poklonny Cross, erected in the XVII century on the shore of the Kola Bay, where fishermen went to sail, is the oldest wooden monument in the Arctic region. Currently, the shrine is located in the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in the city of Kola. The temple is considered the first stone building on the land of the Kola Peninsula. The church was built by Vasily Myshkin, a native of Arkhangelsk, with an artel.
Building materials — bricks, iron, nails — were delivered to the city by sea from Arkhangelsk. The object is of interest to tourists who go on cultural and educational trips.
The church building includes a two-light cubic volume of the main church with a five-sided altar and a large refectory, connected on the west side with a tent-shaped bell tower of the octagon-on-four type. The refectory served as a winter church and contained two side chapels: on the south side-St. Alexy, the man of God, on the north — the All-merciful Saviour, which was intended for Christ's feasts; later it was consecrated in the name of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, who was considered the patron saint of seafarers.
The side arches in the wall between the refectory and the main room of the church remind us of the former side chapels.
A notable feature of the church is a huge multi-faceted bulbous dome, planted without a drum directly on the main quad, and completely covering it.
