Add to the journey
The exposition of the Museum of the history of the city of Monchegorsk is located in a building built in early 1937 according to the original design of the Leningrad architect Konstantin Ivanovich Guryev in the form of a Finnish cottage.
Today it is a cultural and educational center that popularizes the history and culture of the Kola Region. Since 2000, the museum fund has received more than 6,700 museum items related to the history of Monchegorsk and its inhabitants.
The exposition, which introduces guests and residents of the city to the history of the development of the Monchetundra, construction and development of the city, is presented in 4 halls: "Reserved Lapland", "A city in a beautiful tundra", "Monchegorsk: the war period", "The City at the turn of the century".
The museum reflects the history of Monchegorsk from the beginning of its creation to the present day. The exposition tells about the Honorary citizens of Monchegorsk — people who have made a special contribution to the development of the city, about the small anti-submarine ship "Monchegorsk", bearing the name of the city since 1999, about the Holy Ascension Cathedral, the Severonikel combine and the Lapland Reserve.
In 2016, the building became one of the objects of the walking tour route, developed by the Museum staff based on the Maugry mobile application, with the support of Norilsk Nickel as part of the charity program "World of New Opportunities".
Now every resident and even a guest of Monchegorsk can become a guide himself. There are signs with QR codes in the city that will tell about the history of memorable places. To use them, you only need a mobile phone with the appropriate program.
The museum has the opportunity to book an excursion with an experienced guide who will tell you all the most interesting things about this object.
