Murmansk, Green Cape hill

On the western shore of Lake Semenovsky, next to the memorial "Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War" is a memorial to the workers of the military Murmansk.

It was created on the initiative of construction veterans, veterans of the Second World War, the administration of Murmansk with the support of residents of the capital of the Arctic region. In February 2008, the mayor of the city and The Council of Deputies proposed to the residents of Murmansk to raise funds for a new monument. The Northerners willingly responded and donated about 800 thousand rubles. The memorial was opened on October 3, 2008.

The author of the sketch was Vladimir Kirilyuk. According to his idea, the star of pink-gray granite on a black stand symbolizes the hard victory in the Great Patriotic War, the hammer and sickle on its background — different professions of the Murmansk residents who worked in the rear. Among those who helped to go to May 9, 1945, were fishermen, workers of the commercial port, railway, medical workers, reindeer herders, shipbuilders and many others.

The monument stands on a concrete pedestal. On the side plate on the right is carved a poem by an unknown author "The hammer and sickle-the emblem of labor, firmly soldered with a Red Star. A memorial sign will always be for the People of labor, scorched by the war." Behind the memorial, you can see Murmansk, which was burned to the ground by airstrikes, but survived.
