Not all Murmansk residents will immediately remember that the monument at the Sailors 'Cultural Center in Murmansk on Chelyuskintsev Street is dedicated to the anti-Hitler coalition, because it is popularly called the "balloon monument". And some students consider it "their own" — during the session they come with test scores

The full name of the monument is "In honor of the combat commonwealth of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition during the Second World War". It was opened on May 7, 1975, and the authors were architects A. Ganin and V. Andreev from the Institute "Murmanskgrazhdanproekt". According to their idea, the monument made of red Karelian granite is a hand that holds the globe in the palm of its hand. On the stone planet, the outlines of the continents are easily visible. The composition stands on a concrete base decorated with stones. At the foot of the monument is a black stone slab with inscriptions in Russian and English: "In memory of the joint struggle of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition against fascism in the Second World War". World War II". 

During the terrible years of the war, the Soviet Union united with other countries to fight against a common enemy. One of the forms of cooperation was the northern convoys, when weapons, food, etc. were sent to our country by ships through Murmansk and Arkhangelsk. On the opening day of the monument, the flags of the USSR, the RSFSR, Australia, Great Britain, Canada, the United States and Norway. Although at that time the Cold War was in full swing. Special guests took part in the solemn meeting: the Ambassador of Australia, the Admiral of the American Fleet, the naval attaches of the British Embassies and Canada. The monument to the anti-Hitler coalition is located in a small square, where there are benches for recreation.
