Add to the journey
In many cities of Russia there is a Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya Street, and Murmansk is no exception. In the capital of the Arctic, there is a square of the same name with a tulip fountain. But only on June 22, 2018, on the Day of Remembrance and Sorrow, a monument was opened here in honor of the scout, who became the first in In the Soviet Union, a woman awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union during the Great Patriotic War.
The idea of creating a monument to Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya belongs to a group of deputies of the Murmansk City Council of Deputies. Now there is a 100-kilogram and four-meter granite stele with a bronze bust standing alone in the square. It was made by Smolensk craftsmen according to the sketch of the famous Murmansk artist Alexander Arsentiev, who became the author of the monuments in the Alley of Writers and other attractions of Murmansk.
According to the author, he did not want to make the monument vulgar, because in some other cities Zoya Kosmodemyanskaya was often depicted half-naked. And the idea was a success: the scout seems to be flying forward, a light smile plays on her lips, her eyes are bright, intelligent, firm. There is determination and inflexibility in her whole appearance. The inscription "Hero of the Soviet Union Zoya Anatolyevna Kosmodemyanskaya. Brutally tortured by the fascists on November 29, 1941."
