Monument to The L-4386 Steam Locomotive
Add to the journey
To mark the 100th anniversary of Murmansk, a new monument has appeared in the city- the L-4386 steam locomotive. Both the place and the time of this event were not chosen by chance.
The same age as the polar capital is the Oktyabrskaya Railway, which connected Romanov-on-Murmansk (as Murmansk was called at the beginning of the century) and St. Petersburg. The first train that passed along the branch was a freight mainline steam locomotive. It was not possible to find the first car that made the historic trip. But instead, you can see the "brother" -the L-4386 steam locomotive, which was built in 1951 on the Voroshilovgrad plant designed by the famous locomotive engineer Lev Lebedyansky. Therefore, its second popular name is "lebedyanka". He ran from point A to point B for 65 years, most often cruised on the section between Kandalaksha and Petrozavodsk. Then it was written off. It was not easy to find it: I had to search in many Russian cities. However, the legendary steam locomotive, which wound many kilometers along the northern roads, was still found — since 2004, it was on preservation in the depot "Novosokolniki". For the double anniversary, it was put in order: cleaned of rust, painted, soaped — and put the 92-ton steam locomotive in the eternal parking lot at the Murmansk railway station. Now everyone who comes to it will be able to see a black-and-red handsome man with bright white inscriptions. You can even approach it to take a picture.
