A monument Treska
Add to the journey
Cod weighing 32 kilograms is a catch that every fisherman in the Murmansk Region would be happy to catch. In Murmansk, you can imagine yourself as such a fisherman for a moment.
In the square on the Ploshad' Pyat' uglov, there is a monument "Treska" (cod) in bronze nets. The cod is the symbol of the city and is depicted on the coat of arms. Thanks to the fishing of this fish during the Great Patriotic War, the city of Murmansk survived and was able to feed the country. Until now, cod is the basis of fishing in the Northern Basin.
A monument to her in the capital of the Arctic appeared only in October 2015 thanks to the initiative of scientists from the Polar Research Institute. The weight of the small architectural form is not chosen by chance. 32 kilograms is the average weight of one caught fish. The length also corresponds to the real one-1.2 meters. Therefore, come closer and feel how difficult it is for Murmansk fishermen to fish. The monument is made of metal and natural stone.
Murmansk residents believe that if you bend down to the cod and whisper your wish, it will definitely come true. And fishermen need to stroke it at all - the catch will always be rich. And, of course, you can not leave Murmansk without trying a dish of cod.
