Museum of Sami Literature and Writing named after October Voronova

This museum, the only one in Russia dedicated to literature and writing of the small people of the North, is located in the village of Revda and is named after Octobrina Voronova, the first Sami poetess who put the Sami word into poetic lines and brought the Sami cultural heritage to the whole world. Her poems have been translated into many languages of the world and are known in different countries. The Sami word, thanks to her, lives and speaks.




This is a museum-archive, where you can work on diplomas, abstracts, finding almost any information related to the history of the Kola Region, ethnography, everyday life, culture of the Sami, Komi, Pomor peoples, as well as other materials.



The area of the permanent exhibition museum: three rooms in a three-room apartment.




The main sections of the museum's exposition:

The first room is dedicated to the life and work of the first Sami poet Octobrina Voronova.

The second room is devoted to Sami literature and writing, the history of Lovozerye, the Kola Region, the life and work of Murmansk writers.

The third is devoted to the decorative and artistic creativity of the Sami, the literary creativity of schoolchildren of the Murmansk region and the collection of dolls of the peoples of the world.




The museum is named after Octobrina Voronova, the first Sami poetess who was the first to put the Sami word into poetic lines and brought the Sami cultural heritage to the whole world, her poems have already been translated into many languages and are read in different countries. The Sami word, thanks to her, lives and speaks.




Over the years of the Museum's existence (in 2019 it turned 25 years old) It was visited by schoolchildren and adults not only from the cities of the Murmansk region and Russia, but also by guests from Ukraine, Belarus, Moldova, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, New Zealand, Mexico. The creator and head of the museum, a Sami writer, a member of the Union of Writers of Russia, chief librarian Nadezhda Bolshakova considers it a truly national museum. The museum sector was founded in 1994 by Nadezhda Pavlovna Bolshakova, a member of the Union of Writers of Russia. The idea of its creation belongs to the Murmansk poet Viktor Timofeev. For four years the museum existed on a voluntary basis. In 1998, it became a museum sector at the municipal budgetary institution "Lovozersk inter-settlement Library".
