Add to the journey
The deckhouse of the nuclear submarine Kursk, which sank in the Barents Sea, is part of the memorial complex "Sailors who died in peacetime", installed near the church "Spas on the Waters". The opening of the monument took place on July 26, 2009, on the Day of the Navy.
The nuclear submarine Kursk sank in the Barents Sea on 12 August 2000 after an explosion on board in preparation for a simulated torpedo attack. All 118 people on board were killed. In 2001, as a result of a large-scale international operation, the submarine was lifted from the bottom of the sea from a depth of 108 meters, delivered to the plant in the village of Roslyakovo, from where it was transported to the city of Snezhnogorsk for further disposal.
The deckhouse of the submarine is the only thing that has been left and preserved.
