Museum of the History of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port
Add to the journey
The Museum of the History of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port, which opened in September 2015 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the enterprise, is located in the Port Passage next to the icebreaker-museum "Lenin", at the pontoon berth of the Murmansk Sea Station.
The museum was conceived so that northerners and guests of the Arctic could learn more about the formation of the port, thanks to which Murmansk appeared.
The museum has an exposition of a unique exhibit — a panorama of Murmansk, made by the artist and local historian Evgeny Fedorovich Bartold in 1933. Interestingly, the author conceived his work in the form of a circle with a length of more than 12 meters. The dimensions of the painting are so large that it was impossible to exhibit the original, so visitors are presented with eight sketches, as well as a scaled-down copy in expanded form.
The exposition materials are placed in such a way that each section is dedicated to a certain milestone or historical theme. Moving from one stand to another, the visitor seems to move through time — this creates a sense of continuity in the history of the Murmansk Commercial sea Port.
Sections of the exhibition:
• survey work and construction of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port;
• formation of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port;
• Murmansk commercial sea port during the war;
• restoration and development of the Murmansk Commercial Sea Port;
• Joint Stock Company "Murmansk Commercial Sea Port" at the turn of the century;
• Public Joint Stock Company "Murmansk Commercial Sea Port": present days and new horizons.
