Deer sculpture

The deer is a symbol of the city. According to the legend written by the honorary citizen of Olenegorsk V.G. Prokopova, the city owes its birth to him:"Many, many years ago, in those places where our city was spread, there were dense forests and swamps. For a long time, only wild beasts walked here, and a handsome deer grazed ... But one day the deer's sensitive ear caught vague sounds. People made their way through the swampy swamps and dense forests. They approached the mountain and stopped, struck by the proud look of the deer. He stood at the very top of the mountain with his head held high. Suddenly the deer darted away, sheaves of sparks flew from under the hooves. People were surprised, went to the place where the deer stood, but apart from velvet moss, they saw nothing. They lifted up the moss, and beneath it were black rocks. Iron, they exclaimed. Yes, it was iron ore. In gratitude to the deer, who showed the way to the ore, they named the Deer Mountain. And near the mountain they built a city and named it Olenegorsk".
