North Sea Museum and Exhibition Complex
Add to the journey
The North Sea Museum and Exhibition Complex was opened in the year of the celebration of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Navy on October 26, 1996 as a Museum of the history of the city and the fleet. The main exhibition is located in two halls. The Battle Hall of Fame tells about the distant past of the village of Vaenga, about the history of the creation of the Northern Military Flotilla.
There are exhibits that introduce visitors to the history of the air, surface, and submarine forces of the Northern Fleet; as well as material about famous heroes of the North Sea. The exposition of the city hall consists of several sections: the history of the construction of Severomorsk, the development of culture, education, health, consumer services, as well as sections that tell about the friendly relations and sports achievements of the Severomorsk residents. Part of the exhibition tells about the Honorary citizens of the city. Of particular interest to visitors are the exhibits of the new section "Fauna of the Kola Arctic".
Now the funds of the complex number about 7,000 museum items. These are documents, photos, awards, personal belongings of the North Sea people.
In 2014, the institution was reorganized by joining the North Sea City Exhibition Hall to the museum. Various exhibitions are displayed in the halls of the temporary expositions of the complex. They are also a venue for various events: lectures and talks, local history lessons on history and natural history, lessons on the history of painting, memorial evenings and literary and musical meetings, meetings of interest clubs.
Today, the museum and exhibition complex is a kind of "business card" of the city, where residents and guests of the naval capital come.
