Monument to F. Vidyaev
Add to the journey
In the center of the village, on the most honorable and solemn place, a monument to the man whose name has been borne by the garrison since July 6, 1965 is erected. Fyodor Alekseyevich Vidyaev is a North Sea hero, commander of the famous Soviet diesel-electric torpedo submarines Shch-421 and Shch-422, who is rightly called the knight of the underwater depths.
Since the beginning of the war, Fyodor Alekseevich Vidyaev has been at sea for three hundred days, participated in the sinking of fifteen enemy ships, of which eight were on his commander's account. The motherland awarded him three Orders of the Red Banner, and the Queen of Great Britain – the Order of the British Empire, 4th class.
This monument was erected on July 28, 1968, designed by the Leningrad sculptor D. M. Epifanov. Fyodor Alekseevich is wearing no headdress, in a tunic with three orders of the Red Banner on his chest. This was his last lifetime photo.
Vidyaev's name remained in the name of the polar garrison of submariners. The name of Vidyaev burned in gold letters on board the submarine base. The name of Vidyaev remained in the hearts of noble descendants. The name of Vidyaev remained in the poems of naval poets:
In the depths where we went in the underwater patrol,
Where did we raise the score for our victories,
Vidyayev, forever remaining in the sea,
The immortal watch still carries…
