Add to the journey
In memory of the war and post — war aviation pages of history, back in 1978, a monument was erected in Afrikanda-the aircraft "MIG-19", the first Soviet supersonic fighter. With a weight of almost 7 tons in flight, it reached a speed of 1450 kilometers per hour. Entered into mass production in 1954, it embodied many innovative technical solutions for that time and for many years was considered one of the best military vehicles, the pride of the Soviet armed forces.
In 2002, after the disbandment of the aviation regiment and the preservation of the airfield, the monument-the aircraft "MIG-19"-in order to preserve it as a symbol of northern aviation, was redirected to the city of Polar Zori.
In 2004, after the reconstruction of the aircraft "MIG-19", plates appeared on which 28 names of pilots — Heroes of the Soviet Union, who fought in the North during the Finnish and Great Patriotic War, were carved.
