On July 28, 2018, the monument to St. Nicholas, Archbishop of Myra of Lycia, the Wonderworker, was unveiled in the Polar Capital. The bronze sculpture is installed on a pedestrian staircase in the area of the house number 20 on Vorovsky Street.
The image of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker, the patron saint of seafarers and travelers, is based on an icon painted by Fyodor Konyukhov in one of his travels. The monument to St. Nicholas the Wonderworker is part of a large project. Monuments will also appear in Kaliningrad, Nakhodka and Sevastopol.
Six-meter bronze monument: St. Nicholas the Wonderworker stands in a boat, which is beaten by an ocean wave. In the right hand of the saint — Cape Horn, in the left-a sailing ship. It took more than six tons of bronze to create the monument.
