The building management of the Murmansk trawler fleet

In the northern part of the street, the dominant position is occupied by the majestic building of the Murmansk Trawl Fleet Management, previously it was the House of Inter-voyage rest for sailors was inaugurated on November 7, 1938 — the first building of this type in the Soviet Union. For those times, it was a very comfortable hotel complex designed for fishermen of Murmansk, with comfortable rooms, a restaurant, consumer services, a cinema hall and even a swimming pool.

Near the building of the Management of the «Murmansk Trawl Fleet» there are sculptural compositions of animals.

Deer and polar bears are located right at the entrance to the building. The building was built in 1938 as the House of inter-cruise recreation of trawl Fleet fishermen (DMO). Sculptures appeared in the 50s. Over the past decades, the sculptures have suffered considerably, some fragments (ears, tails) have been lost. In 2012, restoration work was carried out.

In the square in front of the DMO, facing Schmidta Street, there is a memorial in honor of fishermen and vessels of the fishing fleet who died during the Great Patriotic War. And just a stone’s throw from here is another attraction — the first underground passage in Murmansk, built in 1972.
