Merchant Kagachev 's House
Add to the journey
The house was built in 1904 and is one of the oldest houses in the Pomeranian village of Varzuga. In 2021, it was included in the unified State register of cultural heritage objects of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
The merchant Kagachev's house, located on the Nikolskaya side of Varzuga, is a vivid example of wooden architecture in the Kola North, an example of a rural merchant's house with elements of urban planning dating back to the beginning of the XX century.
Merchant Ivan Kagachev, after moving to the neighboring village of Kuzomen, gave his house to the school. Decades later, the house fell into disrepair and in 2000 was subject to disassembly for firewood. A resident of the village, Pyotr Zaborshchikov, restored the house on his own and in 2010 organized a museum of Pomor culture in it - the "Center for the Protection of the Pomor Cultural Heritage".
To date, the old merchant's house is included in the unified state register of cultural heritage objects (historical and cultural monuments) of the peoples of the Russian Federation.
