cape Kekursky

Cape Kekursky is located in the northern part of the Rybachy Peninsula. It is separated from the German Cape (the northernmost mainland point of the European part of Russia) by the Vida Bay.

This is one of the most picturesque, hard-to-reach and therefore cherished places for travelers on the Kola Peninsula.

The ridge of the cape consists of large ledges of irregular, jagged shape, falling to the surface of the water. The word "kekur" (from the Finnish "keko") means "a pointed coastal rock".
Thanks to the rocks rising to a height of 100 meters and located on the outskirts of the cape, it got its name. The age of the rocks is about 900-800 million years – a vivid illustration of how tectonic processes took place on Earth.

In the vicinity of the cape there are ancient Sami sites and temples and many military monuments of the Great Patriotic War-artillery cannons, pillboxes and bunkers.
