The coast of red stones
Add to the journey
The coast of red stones is a site in the surf zone, on the coast of the Barents Sea. It is located near the rocks of the Two Brothers on the Sredny Peninsula.
This is a whole gallery of sandstone outliers. The rocks are about 700 million years old. The variety and quirkiness of their shapes, the layered structure are the result of physical and chemical weathering. The red color of these stones is due to the presence of iron oxide.
Rocky rocks that resemble the figures of people, animals, mysterious creatures and objects change their shape depending on the time of day and light. Especially impressive are the "red stones" in the rays of the setting sun.
