Add to the journey
Varzuga is one of the oldest settlements on the Kola Peninsula. It has been known since the XV century and even then was the main settlement of the Tersk coast.
The village can be called one of the tourist centers of the Kola Peninsula.
Varzuga is divided into two parts by the river of the same name:
The western part is a collective farm called "Shoots of Communism". Previously, the collective farm was mainly engaged in fishing and processing fish, now fishing tourism is also actively developing.
In the river there are salmon, trout, grayling, pike, pink salmon. One of the sources of income of the settlement is fishing tourism. The fishing season is from May 15 to July 1 and from September 1 to October 15. Fishing is allowed only on fishing permits and strictly only in certain places.
The eastern part is the old village, which bears the name "Nikolskaya side". You can get here by motor boat, the ferry works almost around the clock. There are smaller and older houses in this part of the village. A large cross on the hill marks the location of the ancient fortress "Tre".
If you go up the river, you can reach the sand hills, where the sands are held back by trees and vegetation, but in open places they are visible.
