The Murmansk Regional Art Museum is a landmark of the city of Murmansk only because it is located in the very first stone building of the city, which is located in the historical center of Murmansk. On January 17, 1990, the exhibition hall was transformed into the Murmansk Regional Art Museum and at the same time the works of painting, graphics, sculpture, decorative and applied art from the Murmansk Regional Museum of Local Lore were transferred to its funds. The permanent exhibition of the art museum "Russian Fine Art of the XVIII-XX centuries" consists of several sections: the first of them is devoted to Russian art of the XVIII-XIX centuries. The section dedicated to Russian art of the twentieth century presents paintings, graphic works, sculpture and works of decorative and applied art.
The collection of graphics in the museum's collection is the most numerous. The permanent exhibition of the museum presents works of Moscow, Leningrad and Murmansk graphic artists. The museum owns a small collection of sculptures.
The Kola North has always had a special attraction for creative people. The painting section dedicated to Murmansk artists begins with the works of the oldest artists of the region. This section gives an idea of the current state of development of fine arts on the Kola Peninsula.
The exposition of the Murmansk Regional Art Museum is completed with works of decorative and applied art. Visitors can get acquainted with the main northern crafts: wood painting, making clay toys, bone carving, lace weaving, birch bark weaving, wood carving.
