The State Natural Biological Reserve of regional significance "Simbozersky" is located on the territory of the municipality of Olenegorsk.
The reserve was established on January 5, 2003 by the decree of the Government of the Murmansk region No. 2-PP. Its main objectives include the protection of rare and economically and culturally interesting animals, the preservation of the overall ecological balance of the reserve. Hunting, any industrial activity, bonfires and any actions leading to pollution of the reserve are prohibited on the protected land. The collection of mushrooms and berries on a non-industrial scale is allowed.
The moose wintering grounds and the habitats of the European pearl pearl are protected on the territory of the reserve. The environmental value of the territory also lies in the fact that 17 species of higher vascular plants grow here, listed in the Red Book of the Murmansk region. Among them are calypso bulbous, poppy Lapland, goodyear creeping, Kola alder, mountain violet, northern cherry, carnation lush and others.
