Event tourism in the Murmansk region

The Murmansk region is actively developing event tourism as a tool to attract tourists and strengthen the regional economy. The region has many events planned, giving tourists the opportunity to find interesting events for every taste every week, be it festivals, sports competitions or gastronomic celebrations.

Winter

Among the region's main events, winter festivals that reveal the uniqueness of northern culture occupy a special place. For example, in the town of Kovdor, the Hyperborean New Year is held on the longest night of the year. According to legends, on this night the serpent Kuvvt comes out to people and bestows his blessing on them. The Zimandra festival in Monchegorsk combines the traditions of winter festivities with the flavor of the Arctic, offering guests fairs, tastings of local dishes and sports activities. The Morozko Festival is held in the town of Olenegorsk. This is the place where the movie of the same name was filmed.

Spring

In spring, gourmets will be delighted by the Taste of the Arctic gastronomic festival. Visiting it, guests can taste dishes prepared by restaurateurs from all over the region from local products - fish, seafood and berries - and also get acquainted with the culture of Arctic cuisine.

Summer

The Teriberka Arctic Festival, held in the village of the same name and nature park on the shores of the Barents Sea, is popular in the summer season. This event attracts thousands of tourists due to the combination of music, art, gastronomy and northern nature. The Imandra Festival also takes place in the summer. The scale of the event with many options and activities gives every guest the opportunity to feel the medieval atmosphere of the north. Moreover, in summer you can take part in a sailing regatta in Kandalaksha or learn about the tasteful industrial history of the Pechenga District at the Gastro Industry Fest in Nikel.

Autumn

In the fall, tourists can participate in the Moncha Night Trail or take part in ski racing competitions. Fans of quiet recreation can visit the Teriberka Nature Park on the day of its creation.

Calendar “51 events of the region”

One of the foundations for the development of event tourism is the interactive calendar “51 events of the region” posted on the Murmansk.travel platform. This tool combines cultural, sporting, gastronomic and educational events, providing residents and guests of the region with convenient access to up-to-date information.

The calendar has become an indispensable tool for the tourism business. It helps tour operators and agencies to inform tourists about events in a timely manner, offering them a combination of traditional recreation and colorful events. This allows to significantly increase the attractiveness of tourist products and meet the needs of guests.

The calendar was recognized at the federal level, becoming the winner of the XIII International Award in the field of event tourism Russian Event Awards in the nomination “Best Regional Calendar of Tourist Events” among the Central and North-West Federal Districts.
