The area of Five corners

After leaving the business center "Arctic", you will find yourself on the Five Corners Square.

Five Corners is the central square of Murmansk, which is located inside the intersection of Vorovsky Street, Lenin Avenue and Leningradskaya Street.

The square got its name because of the five roads that led to it (currently only four have been preserved).

The fifth corner disappeared after the Great Patriotic War due to the liquidation of a section of Samoilova Street, which overlooked the square from the side of the House of Inter-voyage recreation of Sailors (currently the Meridian Congress Hotel)

Cultural heritage objects of regional significance are adjacent to the Five Corners Square:

The locomotive ran on the railway connecting Murmansk with St. Petersburg, most often on the section between Kandalaksha and Petrozavodsk.

Murmansk Seaport is located in the business and historical part of the city center. There is a railway station in the immediate vicinity of it.

2.5 km from the sea station, in the north direction from the city center, there is a lighthouse — memorial complex "To Sailors who died in peacetime".

One of the most beautiful places in the city, where a beautiful view of the Kola Bay opens. It is located on the descent between Chelyuskintsev Street and Heroes-Severomortsev Avenue.

You can get there by public transport (trolleybus No. 4, bus No. 5) or taxi.

You can get there on foot by climbing Chelyuskintsev Street.

In 2009, on June 15, the deckhouse of the Kursk nuclear submarine was installed next to the lighthouse, which became a monument to submariners who died in peacetime. The names of 33 submarines on which sailors died in peacetime are recorded next to the wheelhouse. There is a trace of a palm carved on the wall, touching it as if you are shaking hands with a person who has remained in the sea forever.

Lake "Semenovskoe"

Walking from the lighthouse towards the lake, you will find yourself in a green recreation area.

There is an amusement park here, where you can ride the highest Ferris wheel above the Arctic Circle.

In summer, you can ride on rented boats or catamarans on the water surface of the lake, in winter the reservoir turns into a natural skating rink. Also, in the warm season, a light and music fountain beats directly from the center of the lake.

There are several major attractions near Semenovsky Lake:

The most popular resident of Semenovsky Lake on a permanent residence permit is the cat Semyon.

Memorial "To the Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War"

Between Semenovsky Lake and Nizhne-Rostinsky highway there is a monument to "Defenders of the Soviet Arctic during the Great Patriotic War"

This is the second largest monument in our country after "Motherland calls!". The height of "Alyosha" together with the pedestal is 42.5 meters, without the pedestal - 35.5 meters.

The sculpture represents a soldier in a raincoat tent with a machine gun behind his back. A lone soldier looks to the west, inThe Valley of Glory, where bloody battles took place during the Great Patriotic War.

From the first days of its opening, Murmansk residents lovingly call it "Murmansk Alyosha", because the main figure of the monument is the figure of a warrior, a soldier.

The memorial, along with the figure of a warrior, includes the podium "Eternal Flame", a three-sided pyramid symbolizing the lowered battle flag. There were two anti-aircraft guns nearby — on this hill there were anti-aircraft batteries covering the city and the port from the air, and a stele with the inscription: "To the Defenders of the Arctic — soldiers of the 14th Army, 19th Army, Red Banner Northern Fleet, 7th Air Army, border detachments No. 82, 100, partisan detachments "Soviet Murmansk", "Bolshevik of the Arctic", "Polar Explorer", "Stalinist", "Bolshevik". Glory to those who defended this land!".
