Murmansk, Leninsky District

How Semyonovsky Lake got its name is not exactly known. There is a legend that once on the shore of the lake lived grandfather Semyon (Semyon Korzhov or Korzhnov), the first resident of Murmansk, Arkhangelsk soldier or pomor. Built a house, fished.

The lake area is 19.5 hectares. Almost in its very center is a dancing fountain. On the shore there is also a walrus house, which is open all year round. But swim in the Semenovsky Lake is dangerous — the water does not warm up even in the heat, there are cold underwater springs. But there is a beach here, where Murmansk residents like to sunbathe. Residents and visitors of the city like to walk along the renovated embankment. On the lake, you can go boating and catamarans, taken from the boat station.

The territory of Semenovsky Lake is regularly cleaned. In winter, a Baptismal font is created here, so garbage is removed from the bottom. In spring and summer, subbotniks are regularly organized.

There are several cafes open for visitors. The boat station has a stage where all kinds of holidays take place from Shrovetide and New Year to Victory Day and Youth Day. Semenovskoe Lake is the main cultural site of the Leninsky District. In winter, when the ice thickness of the Semenovsky Lake becomes reliable, people go skiing here.

There are several major attractions near Semyonovsky Lake: "Alyosha" - memorial to the "Defenders of the Soviet Arctic", monument to the "Chimney", the center for children and youth creativity "Lapland", the church "Spas-on-the-Waters".

On the territory of the lake there is an amusement park, where there are slides, steam trains, a shooting range and the highest Ferris wheel in the city and beyond the Arctic circle. In winter, the park is decorated with LED figures, and in summer-topiary compositions.

The most popular resident of Semenovsky Lake on a permanent residence permit is the cat Semyon.
