Apatity is a small northern city with a population of almost 55 thousand people, comfortably located on a plain in the heart of the Kola Peninsula.

On one side of the city is Lake Imandra, the largest body of water in the region, on the other-the ancient, mighty Khibiny Mountains.

The history of the city began in February 1915 with the construction of the northern section of the Murmansk Railway from the Belaya post station. In 1930, the Apatity station appeared, from where there was a direct route to the wild gorges of the Khibiny Mountains, to the deposits of the mineral, which managed to lure tens of thousands of people to the North with its unusual properties. This green sugary mineral is reverently called "the stone of fertility", and its Latin name "apatite" became the name of the city. Apatity acquired the status of a city on July 7, 1966.

Apatites are very accessible in terms of transport. Khibiny airport and the railway station are located here, and the federal highway R-21 can be reached both to the north, to the cold Barents Sea, and to the south, for example, to the Tersk coast.

Guests of the city can stay in hotels or at recreation centers located along the coast of Lake Imandra. Winter activities: snowmobiling and dog sledding, active entertainment, the opportunity to watch the Northern Lights (it is believed that in the vicinity of Apatity there are very good conditions for this). You can go cross-country skiing or take a walk through the forest on the "health trail", and you can go to the slope of Mount Vorobyinaya and go snowboarding or downhill skiing. In summer , hiking and trekking in Khibiny, fishing and recreation on the lake shore are popularImandra.

One of the attractions of the city is the only monument in Russia to Academician A. E. Fersman, thanks to which the development of apatite deposits began. Near the monument by the forces of enthusiasts created Geological Park, where samples of the main ores and minerals of the Kola Peninsula deposits are presented.

In the city there are cafes, restaurants, fitness centers and beauty salons, an indoor ice rink with artificial ice, a modern FOK with the latest climbing wall, a swimming pool, as well as a tourist information center (Apatity, Lenin Street, 3), where guests are ready to tell everything about the possibilities of recreation in Apatity and Khibiny.
