Nature reserves of the Murmansk region

More than half of the Kola Peninsula is uninhabited: forests, endless tundra, majestic mountains, mirror-like lakes. Wild land, pristine beauty. All this can not fail to attract the tourist fleeing from the city in search of solitude and serenity.

Lapland Nature Reserve

The area of this fourth largest state nature reserve in the European part of Russia is approximately 3,000 square kilometers. And its peculiarity is that previously people have never lived on these lands and were not engaged in economic activities, so almost the entire territory is represented by wild untouched nature. 

Kandalaksha Nature Reserve

Where the long and dark polar winter gives way to a short summer with no setting sun, where the harsh shores are washed by the waters of two seas, the Barents Sea and the White Sea, the Kandalaksha State Nature Reserve is located on more than 550 islands. It was formed on September 7, 1932 to protect the common gaga, a sea duck that has long been famous for its valuable qualities of nest fluff. The Kandalaksha Nature Reserve is one of the cultural and educational centers of the Russian northern ornithological science. 

Pasvik Nature Reserve

The Pasvik State Nature Reserve is part of a large protected area protected by three countries. In addition to our reserve, there is the Finnish wildlife area "Vyatsari", the Norwegian national park "Upper Pasvik", the reserve "Pasvik" and the landscape reserve "Upper Pasvik". That is why this place is also considered a point of connection of the three cultures.

"Seidyavvr" Nature Reserve

The reserve is located 17 km southwest of the district center of the village of Lovozero. The protected area is located in the Lovozero mountain range and occupies the water area and coastal areas of Lake Seydozero.

"Simbozersky" Nature Reserve

The state natural Biological Reserve of regional significance "Simbozersky" is located on the territory of the municipal formation of the city of Olenegorsk. Its area is 39,568 hectares.

Varzugsky Nature Reserve

The reserve was established on November 10, 1982. Its objectives include conducting research and activities to preserve the salmon population, studying and protecting the habitats and abundance of the European pearl oyster, preserving the natural landscapes of the coastal strips of rivers and preventing pollution of the Varzuga River and its tributaries.

Kolvitsky Nature Reserve

The purpose of the creation of the reserve was to protect hunting and commercial birds and animals, especially elk and reindeer, and now it also serves to preserve in the natural state of natural complexes-the habitat of rare animals and plants, as well as to ensure the conditions for their reproduction.

"Kutsa" Nature Reserve


The reserve is located in the basin of the Kutsayoki and Tumcha rivers.


The selected territory has reference ecosystems, rare species of plants and animals, objects of important recreational significance. It includes an array of old-growth forests.


Ponoysky Zoological Reserve

The reserve is located in the middle reaches of the Ponoy River. The reserve performs the functions of preserving, restoring, reproducing, as well as rational use of valuable hunting and commercial animals and birds in economic and scientific relations (these are waterfowl and rare species of birds of prey listed in the Red Books), preserving their habitat, maintaining the overall ecological balance.

Ponoysky Fisheries Reserve


The territory of the reserve includes the Ponoy River, with a length of 234 km from the mouth to the former village of Chalmny-Varre.


Atlantic salmon, pink salmon, trout, grouse, whitefish, grayling, pike, roach, ide, minnow, burbot, three - and nine-needle stickleback, perch live in the river basin. At the mouth of the river there are river flounder and four-horned goby. On the territory of the reserve there are 67 species of plants listed in the Red Book of the Murmansk region.

"Kaita" Nature Reserve


The reserve consists of three sections "Kaita", "Suroyva" and "Vodyanaya".


The territory of the reserve is located in the extreme south-west of the Murmansk region in the immediate vicinity of the Kandalaksha Bay of the White Sea.


Lake Imandra adjoins it from the northeast, and the Knyazhegubsky reservoir from the southeast. The western border of "Kaita" is located about 50 km from the line of the state border of Russia with Finland.



The natural park of the peninsula "Rybachy and Sredny"


The Nature Park was created with the aim of preserving and restoring natural complexes and their components, maintaining the ecological balance and developing tourism, recreation, preserving military memorial sites of the Great Patriotic War, cultural and historical heritage sites.


Valuable natural objects in the park are bird markets, places of growth of rare plant species listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation and The Red Book of the Murmansk region.


"Korablek" Nature Park


The nature park is completely located in the border zone.


The Nature Park is an area of special importance for the preservation and restoration of natural complexes and their components, for maintaining the ecological balance of the territory of the Pasvik-Inari basin.


Teriberka Nature Park


The Nature Park is an area of special importance for the preservation and restoration of natural complexes and their components, including lichens, plants and animals belonging to species listed in the Red Books of the Russian Federation and the Murmansk Region, to maintain the ecological balance of the territory.
